Dear Colleagues,
The Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine is holding the 2008 Oxford Workshop on Evidence-Based Diagnostics 21st - 23rd July 2008 at St. Anne's College, Oxford.
This workshop is open to clinicians and laboratory staff who are interested in how to improve their, and others' usage and interpretation of diagnostic tests. It will be of particular interest to those whose work is largely in diagnostics, such as those working in laboratory medicine and radiology
The workshop is aimed at giving a thorough grounding in standard and new methods in diagnostic research methods, including the appraisal of diagnostic accuracy studies and systematic reviews of diagnostic studies. After the workshop, participants should be able to:
1. Formulate answerable diagnostic questions
2. Search effectively for evidence on diagnostics
3. Critically apprise evidence about diagnostic accuracy or impact and assess it for its validity and applicability
4. Understand basic measures of accuracy such as sensitivity, specificity, likelihood ratios, and ROC statistics
5. Understand the basics of diagnostic meta-analysis and decision analysis.
Facilitators on the workshop include Prof. Paul Glasziou, Director of the Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine, Prof. Chris Price, Visiting Professor in Clinical Biochemistry, University of Oxford and Prof. Jon Deeks, Professor of Health Statistics, University of Birmingham.
