Hi, Sukanta,
You are quite right. That's why we are attempting to pilot a process as well
as to move forward with the content. And that's also why we have not yet
announced. We want to get things right.
As David mentioned, there are things we cannot do online. We cannot replace
some dimensions of the face to face experience, and we should not try. But
we can and must find ways to augment our interaction and communication in
different ways.
One aspect of older forms of scholarly and scientific communication has
dwindled and faded in recent decades. The emphasis on cheap travel, face to
face interaction, and now email and Internet has led to a reduction in
careful, well structured, well written correspondence. That, in all its many
forms, was a primary valued feature of past scholarly and scientific
communication through private papers, newsletters, books, and even journals.
That is what I hope we can begin to recover, at a lower cost and a swifter
turnaround.
As you say, the structure and mechanisms must be clear and transparent, and
I hope they will be. The couple of responses I have had so far suggest that
we consider complete open review with signed reviews and opportunity for
author response. That might afford a kind of full communication not seen
before in design research. If we can find an appropriate system, will add to
clarity.
Yours,
Ken
