There was quite a liturgical reform movement going on at this time as well, which seems to flow (in the short term) from Pius XII's encyclical Mediator Dei
which dealt specifically with the Liturgy and ultimately became somewhat of a foundation for Sacrosanctum Concillium of Vatican II. . . but I digress.
Between the time of Mediator Dei (1947 I seem to recall) and 1955 the Vatican initiated several liturgical reforms including, but not limited to, restoration of
the Easter Triduum (most notably restoration of the Vigil to an evening/night celebration), introduction of vernacular into the Liturgy of Hours (Breviary),
introduction/restoration of Vigil Masses (Saturday evening), and some other things.
I do tend to agree that the changes in prayers are related somewhat to the definition of the Assumption, but wasn't that definition in 1951 or 52?
My theory would be that changes were more immediately related to the Liturgical Movement's efforts to tighten up and better systematize the overall
theology of liturgy which was taking place and leading to Vatican II.
