medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
No, it's much more drastic than that. It is best summed up by Archdale A.
King, Liturgy of the Roman Church, p. 201:
"The chants of the Mass 'Gaudeamus' date from about the 11th century, but
the gradual 'Propter veritatem' occurs in the 7th-century Mass. A new Mass
('Signum magnum') was composed to commemorate the definition of the dogma in
1950, which made a clean sweep of the traditional texts."
