Dear Psci-Commers,
The BA (British Association for the Advancement of Science) is
organising a Working Lunch at the University of Lincoln called
'Scientists in the Spotlight'. We are bringing together national
science journalists from the BBC and New Scientist, four local
journalists and 24 scientists from all over the East Midlands.
The event will give scientists the experience of being interviewed in
a friendly atmosphere and show them what journalists are looking for
in a new story. Some interviews will be video recorded and analysed in
detail. The scientists will:
* gain experience of talking to the media in a non-threatening environment
* receive feedback on their performance
The journalists will
* obtain leads to possible news stories
* network with scientists and other journalists
* help to develop a generation of media-savvy and news-aware scientists
Scientists will pay £25 for lunch and to cover the journalist's expenses.
The event will last from 11:30 to 14:30 on Thursday March 20.
Further details are at http://www.emsec.org.uk/index.php/Working_lunch_2008
Places are limited so early booking is advised.
We are also looking for local journalists (including free-lancers) who
could attend. Expenses can be paid, but no fees.
