medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Hi, Henk,
Yes, the flat-head join as well as at the arms, body, etc. is the
point. There never could have been a body wrapped in this piece of
cloth. No room.
No, I did not presuppose the thing had always been at Turin -- just
that it could have been used in Italy as a stage prop. Yes, I am
aware that this is a well-traveled item.
The way I sustained interest in doing a research paper across 15
weeks was to have students choose something that they were interested
in as their subject. The catch was that they had to do their research
starting at a minimum of the Late-Antique-early Medieval period. One
of my former students did her research paper on saint's relics. For
the final paper, students had to tie their research in the Medieval
period into the late 20th-century. The result was a well-researched
and documented paper comparing Graceland to the Medieval relic mania.
A banner, gonfanon? That's an idea Henk -- also would be flat.
Cheers,
Rochelle
