medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

Judas (i.e. Jude Thaddaeus) is definitely holding a sword, as are also Paul (not surprisingly) and Philip (whose "standard" attribute is a cross, held here by Simon, whose "standard" attribute is a saw)). Standardization, though, is a relative concept when it comes to the apostles' individual attributes. See, for example, Meredith Lillich's discussion of the thirteenth-century apostles here:

That view, BTW, is of the south side of the _tumba_ (whose form is that of a _Hochgrab_, hence the confusion with the elevated "Hochgrab" elsewhere in this church).
