to clarify, questions of ethics rather predated the late-19th century!
'fascism' is a notoriously sloppily used word (cf writers from george
orwell to the ridiculous neo-conservative jonah goldberg have shown)
and talk of 'non-fascist life' doesn't seem to me to help matters.
