Buyers' guide for POC tests for urine albumin and HbA1c -
NHS PASA's Centre for Evidence-based Purchasing (CEP) is currently
preparing a buyers' guide for POC tests for urine albumin and HbA1c
which will include a market review and specifications for all products
currently on the market together with purchasing advice - due to be
published in July. Not sure whether this will be too late to help you
with your decision making Kathryn?
Automated urinalysis project -
On the 4th March Jonathan Kay asked about automated urinalysis that
replace, or partially replaces, microscopy, manual dipstick,
culture onto solid media etc. I know the HPA have had some experience
with this. CEP has been asked to carry out an evaluation on these
systems but a project hasn't been formally agreed yet. The project
proposal came from the Microbiology Department at Kings College
Hospital.
Other projects?
If there's any other product or service project anyone thinks we should
be undertaking particularly around technology that is relatively new to
the NHS then please get in touch.

Subject: Re: HbA1c analysers
Dear mailbase
We measure HbA1c using the BioRad Variant II in our laboratory and the
Siemens DCA at POC and we are considering replacing these. We have had
the following analysers in for evaluation:
BioRad Variant Turbo, Tosoh G8, Menarini HA-8160 Evolution, Axis Shield
Afinion and BioRad in2it.
When on short-term trial it is hard to assess the reliability of the
analyser and the support from the manufacturer. If anyone could share
their longer-term experiences with these analysers, particularly if
you've had any problems, it would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Kathryn Sellar
