Hi Philippa
Thank you! Your posting has set my mind happily reflecting on aspects of
vulnerability in peer mentoring - when is it acceptable to be vulnerable?
Might revealing vulnerability interfere with development of a reciprocal
mentoring relationship e.g if one partner is looking for coaching or skill
development in a particular area and the other reveals their vulnerability
within that area - might that strengthen or weaken the building of trust?
In a situation where a peer is looking for guidance - an apprentice-based
model rather than a peer enquiry model - how is peer learning affected..?
It puts me in mind of the value of 'multiplicity' in peer learning where an
exchange of skills, co-enquiry grounded in mutually respected, complementary
areas and vulnerabilities can be such a strength - where vulnerability could
offer perceived openness to learning and both peers can support one another.
Matching in peer learning and the willingness to have a number of peers with
whom to learn rather than relying upon one are all aspects I am considering.
Again, thank you SO much. Your perspective is just what I needed - to learn!
