medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear Roland,

There is a bit about your saint here. It may have something new for you:

"And this is my question: Why did they replaced the younger Jacobus (the older is there on the other side of the Tumba) by Paulus? Was that a common thing in that time?"
Saint Matthias must also be missing because he completed the twelve after the departure of Judas. Could the unidentified figure not be the supposedly missing James the Less? Matthias is connected with Trier, so there perhaps a chance that he is the unidentified figure and James the Less omitted simply because there is already a James in play, a feeble hypothesis, I know. (It is said that St. Helena brought the relics of St. Matthias to Rome, and that a portion of them was at Trier. See: http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/10066a.htm)
Just some musings...
