Members of the list will remember that JISC (the Joint Information Systems
Committee) issued an invitation in December 2007 to tender for the project
listed below:
"The JISC invites proposals to review requirements of researchers and
teachers, within the HE community, in relation to the use of digitised
resources in Islamic Studies.
Funding of between £25,000 and £35,000 is available for this work,
inclusive of VAT and expenses. The project will run from March-May 2008."
I am pleased to report that a team at the University of Exeter has been
successful in their bid, and that we will shortly be contacting relevant
librarians, archivists and academics in the UK to solicit their views
regarding the digitisation of Islamic resources.
The team comprises both librarians and academics at the University of
Exeter and the project, which we have codenamed DigiIslam, will be led by
Paul Auchterlonie. We hope to have a website for the project up and
running soon - when it is I will give details in a further message.
