Dear All,

 

*        Following my previous email on 22 Jan 2008 regarding the recent International Conference on HE in Iraq, please find attached is The Final Report of the conference.

 

*        Please note that the second attachment is the Arabic version of the report. Brief Arabic texts indicate this fact is given at the end of this email below.

 

*        A copy of this report has already been sent to the Office of the PM of Iraq and to the Minister of HE in Kurdistan, Dr Idris Hadi and to the Ministry of HE in Iraq, Baghdad.  

 

*        This report is being circulated to the Presidents of universities and research institutions in Iraq as well as to international organisations, institutions and universities worldwide that are interested in the HE in Iraq.   It is also being circulated to many academics including those in Iraq.  The report and abstracts of the papers will be posted on IHEOC website (see below): 

 

*        Please note that this report is an outcome of the most important conference on HE in Iraq for the last 20 years.  A senior colleague who attended the conference wrote: "... I have attended tens of conferences; believe me when I say that this is one of the most successful. Considering all the difficulties; the fact that a conference of this scale, whether in the number of participants with their different affiliations or the large number of contributions with keynote speakers, resulted after free and open discussions, the set of recommendations directly affecting the future of higher education in Iraq."

 

*        This report gives us the opportunities and the guidelines on what should be done to contribute effectively for the advancement of HE in Iraq.  Please read it and contribute to the success of its Recommendations.
