Dear all,
We would like to encourage you to participate in our session on the
evolution of sedimentary basins at the 33 IGC in Oslo in August and to
submit an abstract before next week Friday!
We will have a keynote lecture by Philip Allen (Imperial College London)
on the "Role of the Sediment Routing System in Basin Analysis"
We look forward to seeing you in Oslo!

SES-07 Dynamics of sedimentary basins
(Disciplinary Symposia, Sedimentology)
This session aims to discuss all aspects of the dynamic evolution of
sedimentary basins, from the initial stages of formation, through mature
development to their destruction. In simple scenario's, basins are
formed by extension in an intraplate setting or at a passive margin and
can be inverted if the local stress field reverses, while flexural
foreland basins are formed and influenced by orogenic loading.
However, these simple pictures can be complicated by crustal- to
lithospheric-scale factors and processes, such as phase changes,
pre-existing structure, influence of the underlying mantle, rheological
stratification, surface processes, oblique forcing (transtension and
transpression), and strain weakening or hardening, among others. Their
effects may be unravelled by analyses of sediment fill and tectonic
structures or through modelling studies. We welcome contributions that
discuss basin dynamics using numerical models, analogue models, seismic
observations, laboratory techniques and/or field observations.
