issued.

The International Association of Archaeologists of the Caribbean (IACA)
and the City Historian’s Office of Havana City announce for all the
archaeologists and professionals doing research in Caribbean archaeology
the 23rd International Congress on Caribbean Archaeology which will be
held from the 19th to 26th July 2009 in Havana City, Cuba.
The following topics will be dealt with during the congress:
1. New theoretical and methodological contributions to the study
of Pre-Columbian cultures.
2. Pre-agricultural and agricultural societies. New findings and
interpretations.
3. Research on Pre-Columbian technologies.
4. Interpretation and reconstruction of every day’s life in the

adaptation models in the pre-colonial and colonial periods.
6. Caribbean archaeology and ethnohistory.
7. Physical anthropology, genetic and hereditary studies of human
groups. Taphonomic studies in archaeology.

9. Historical archaeology. New theoretical-methodological
contributions, findings and interpretations.
10. Archaeology in the study of slavery, resistance, abolition and
emancipation.
11. Urban archaeology. Studies, findings and interpretations.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PRESENTATION OF PAPERS:
1. Every speaker must present an original, unpublished work
relevant to the topics included and to those related to the Caribbean
archaeological region.
2. The summary of the papers will be sent in digital format
(Microsoft Word file), in Spanish, English or French before 31st October.
3. The full text of the papers will not exceed 10 pages and will
be sent completely before 31st March 2009 to facilitate the appropriate
translation and ensure its participation.
4. The authors are required to indicate the audiovisual media
needed for the presentation.
5. The authors are required to enclose a brief CV to the papers.
