Two Senior Lecturers/Junior Lecturers in Design with focus on product
design/ industrial design
The University of Kalmar has 9 500 students and 800 employees. The
university has nine departments for education and research in natural
sciences, technology, maritime studies, teacher training, social
sciences, economics, business administration, tourism, communication
and design, journalism, languages, humanities and health and
behavioral science.
The Department of Communication and Design is a multidisciplinary
department offering training in journalism, media and communication
studies, design, informatics, computer science and media production.
The Department is currently working to further develop cooperation
between the disciplines. We are looking for one, possibly two senior
lecturers/junior lecturers with substantial competence and experience
in product design/ industrial design.
The design education is housed in the former Pukeberg glassworks in
Nybro, 25 km west of Kalmar. The degree programme in design consists
of a three year Bachelor of Arts in Design, followed by a one-year
Master of Arts in Design programme. The National Graduate School for
Design, to which Kalmar University is affiliated, affords
opportunities for further advanced studies.
The positions entail teaching, tutoring, examination and curriculum
planning. Employment on a part-time basis is an option.
Eligibility requirements for the position as Senior Lecturer are
stated in The Swedish Higher Education Ordinance chapter 4, section 8
and for the position as Junior Lecturer in chapter 4, section 9. In
addition to that a Master’s degree or equivalent. Candidates for the
position of Senior Lecturer must also have substantial work experience
in the field and documented skill in product design. A thorough
knowledge of product aesthetics, design processes and design methods
is required, as is a familiarity with contemporary design discourses.
Basic prerequisites are stated in The Swedish Higher Education
Ordinance chapter 4, section 15. In addition to that the candidate
should have experience of teaching at university or university college
level; international experience and an ability to teach in English; a
familiarity with current design research literature; an ability to
interact with the community and institutions outside the University.
