Research Group Overview
Intel's Domestic Designs and Technologies Research group (part of the
User Experience Group within Intel's Digital Home Group division) is
looking for an experienced ethnographer to conduct field research,
analyze and synthesize data, translate research insights into product
and usage recommendations, and successfully communicate with engineers
and architects within the Digital Home Group. The User Experience Group
is a driving force within the Digital Home Group: our charter is to
develop a clear and actionable understanding of daily life all over the
world, identify opportunities for our platforms to enable experiences
that consumers value, merge original insights with technology, market,
platform and planning intelligence to define usage models and platform
requirements, and seed future research and platform opportunities.
Domestic Designs and Technologies Research (DDTR) is chartered with
driving and executing this research.
Business Group Overview
The Digital Home Group (DHG) is Intel's premier consumer platform group,
with the charter to make Intel the trusted foundation of your digital
home. We will drive the consumer market by defining and delivering
breakthrough platforms that result in corporate growth. DHG is all about
proliferating the next generation connected entertainment experience
based on Intel(r) architecture - one that encompasses the Internet and
broadcast media, and delivers a rich user experience across a variety of
consumer devices in the home. As we transition to a world of digital
content, our initial focus is on delivering best-in-class consumer PC
platforms across key segments (enthusiast and/or gaming, lifestyle,
mainstream and value), as well as System on Chip (SoC) and discrete
products (processors, chipsets, demodulators and tuners) for
Internet-enabled Consumer Electronics (CE) devices, which includes set
top boxes, networked media players and connected CE products.
Qualifications
You should possess an advanced degree in a social science discipline,
for example, anthropology, psychology, sociology, and others. You should
also possess three to five years of industry experience using social
science methodology in a corporate environment to drive product
development. Additional qualifications include:
* Ability to talk to a wide variety of audiences, including deeply
technical, about social science research findings and implications
* Excellent written communication skills, including the ability
to synthesize research results and develop recommendations for business
or technical audiences
* Ability to collaborate easily with other researchers and take on
a variety of roles ranging from leading and conducting field interviews
to data maintenance and presentation
* Ability to drive and/or socialize research results into a
complex organization
* Experience in ethnographic field research
* Experience in working with designers and human factor engineers
to translate research into actionable product direction
* Technical expertise would be an added advantage, as would
knowledge and experience in human computer interaction
Responsibilities
In this position, you will be conducting primary, qualitative research
on people to understand human needs for and responses to technology, and
provide the corporation with a clear and actionable understanding of
daily life around the world to inform the development of platforms that
enable compelling experiences that people - aka "end users" - will
value. Studies will be conducted worldwide. Your research findings will
be combined with technology, platform and planning intelligence to
define the consumer experience and value propositions for Digital Home
Group's platforms, and translate research insights into business
strategies. You may also act as an advocate for the importance of the
user experience for platform development in the industry, speaking to
external audiences.
