Just to confirm _ are these values the SPL at the ear? If not, where? ? The room? To comply with test standards the ear phones must proviide suffiicient attenuation to suppress the background noise. The quality of headphones determines room background noise. Another option I would like to ask is whether active head phones such ass bose are acceptable for testing in noisier environments? Sue

Subject: Re: [OCC-HEALTH] Ambient noise levels during audiometry
Hi
Even sillier but I thought that the maximum was 30db(A) and it is important to monitor noise and log on tests that they where not completed in a sound proof booth. Also you have to look at the type of audio cups. There is apparently HSE guidance on this please see what I could find
Appendix 1: Maximum permissible ambient sound pressure levels (from ISO 8253-2)
The ambient SPLs given in the table below are the maximum that should be present when testing down to 250 Hz and to 0 dB HL. In practice, it is more realistic to aim to test down to 10 dB HL, in which case 10 dB can be added to these figures.

Subject: Re: [OCC-HEALTH] Ambient noise levels during audiometry
hello
can I ask a daft question regarding this?
So if you are doing audio's (without a booth) you can have up to 50dB background noise and the result will still be valid? Do you have to compensate on the result for this background noise?
Do you record/assess the background noise at the time of the test?
Regards
Glenn
