medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I am posting this question for a friend:
"I am working on a seventh century Hebrew apocalyptic that was perhaps written in Syria, the Sefer Zerubavel and particularly interested in two of its figures: Hephzibah, the mother of the messiah who has redemptive and military powers of her own and her sinister counterpart, a marble statue that has sex with the devil and gives birth to the Antichrist Armilus. I am looking for stories of the Virgin Mary or women martyrs fighting off demons or real-life enemies. Any help would be greatly appreciated."
