Dear Jim,
We at the Museum of London have been using WebTrends for the past few
years to analyse our stats. From Last September, we have also been using
Google Analytics to analyse the main Museum of London Group websites -
however, this is mostly used to compare the stats with our findings as
analysed by WebTrends. The reason we have not moved to Google Analytics
completely is because we have many archived microsites that we have not
yet added the Google analytics script to and also, though Google
provides some very good stats, WebTrends let's us go a bit deeper.
We analyse our stats both with spiders and bots as well as without,
though the figures provided to the DCMS is with spiders and bots as I
believe most Museums provide their stats in the same manner.
Hope this helps.
Bilkis.

Subject: Measuring web site visits
Happy New Year everyone!
Apologies for asking, again, a question that's been done to death here
before. I've been asked what the current consensus is on measuring web
site visits, for the purpose of reporting figures to DCMS and so on.
How many people use log analysis software? If so, which software
packages? Is anyone using cookie based user-tracking, like Google
Analytics, to measure visitor figures to their sites? If you are using
Google, do you use those figures for the purpose of meeting targets?
Thanks in advance
Jim
