Has he looked at the EPSG database (www.epsg.org)? This gives a series
of map projections for Libya. All are Transverse Mercator using a zoning
system; the details are too complex for an email. EPSG maintains the
definitive list of coordinate systems in use roud the world; especially
in Libya (EPSG is an Oil and Gas industry body!) I would expect it to be
definitive.

Dear all,
I have had a query from a geologist who wishes to know the parameters
for
the projection used by maps published officially by Libya. Apparently
maps
of the whole country are almost certain to be Lambert Conformal Conic
and he
wants to know at least what the standard parallels are. Ideally he
would
also like to know the scale factor at the standard parallels and the
reference lat/long.
The only map of Libya I have is the 1964 Geologic Map of the Kingdom
of
Libya, USGS Map I-350-A. I've given him the standard parallels from
that,
but he would like something more up to date, and more definitely
officially
Libyan. Does anybody have anything that fits that description who
would be
willing to let us know the information? It doesn't have to be a
geological map.
Thanks,
Clare Gordon
