Dear colleagues,
having just completed a brief report on two Late Bronze Age antler cheek
pieces found during excavations at Flag Fen, Cambridgeshire, I have begun
to compile an inventory of antler cheek pieces from British Neolithic
through to Iron Age contexts.
Pieces known from Britain up to 1976 were published in: Britnell, W.
(1976) Antler Cheekpieces of the British Late Bronze Age. The Antiquaries
Journal 56: 24-34.
With the exception of Runnemede and Poulton, I would be very interested to
know if anyone has come across any additional cheek pieces. Whilst I am
starting with British examples, I am also open to any direction with other
European examples.
The Flag Fen cheek-pieces will be published in a monograph in 2008, but I
can send a photo should anyone be interested.
Many thanks for you help,
Kind regards,
Marcus Brittain
