medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
From: Henk 't Jong <[log in to unmask]>
> For starters read Daniel Thompson’s (old, but still pretty thorough) books
The materials and techniques of medieval painting (London 1936) and The
craftsman’s handbook. Il libro dell’Arte Cennino dÁndrea Cennini (New
Haven
1933). Both have been republished by Dover in resp. 1956 and 1960.
more recently
Bernard Guineau, Glossaire des matériaux de la couleur et des termes
techniques employés dans les recettes de couleurs anciennes.
Turnhout: Brepols, 2005. 791 pp.
i've not seen this and don't know whether "anciennes" includes "medievales" or
not.
but 791pp. seems like a lot, to be taken from Ancient sources alone.
