medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
my remark

> so much for gothic buildings not being painted.
was in response to someone else's about a tendency for there to be less
(figurative) painting in the later buildings.
i should have said, "not being painted with figures."
> Are you now equating "romanesque" with "gothic"?
i don't think so.
certainly didn't intend to do so.
they are not "equal."
i've not lost my Faith that both catagories are, essentially, Modren
Constructs which are only loosly applicable to Middevil Realities and, as
such, are consistently mis-used by most art hysterians --as well as many
others in other disciplines who, at least, have an Excuse.
>> then there was the discussion about how extensive the practice of painting
>> Faux Ashlar actually was (and the whyforance of it).
> Similarly, I had thought that the Faux Ashlar discussion had focussed on
*pre-gothic* structures.
it may have been.
sorting out what was actually said from what i meant to say is always
difficult, for the elderly.
>> having a Senior Moment, John?
> Possibly. But I don't see anything in the foregoing matter to indicate
that.
well, as my Daddy used to say, "I'd rather be lucky than smart."
