Musical modernism in Britain Study Day
The Royal Musical Association and Oxford University Faculty of Music announce a Study Day for Research Students on Musical modernism in Britain, to be held at Oxford University Music Faculty, St. Aldate’s, Oxford on Saturday, 26th April 2008.
This conference seeks to explore the concept of British modernism throughout the twentieth century: how modernism has been defined in Britain, the reception of British and foreign modernist works, the status of British composers as modernists, the interaction between Britain and the Continent, and the extent to which modernism and British identity have been seen as conflicting categories.
We welcome proposals from research students for papers (20 minutes) relating to these issues. Abstracts of not more than 200 words should be submitted to the convenor Joanna Bullivant ([log in to unmask]) by 26th February 2008 for consideration by the programme committee.
To register your interest in the event, please contact the RMA Student Liaison Officer Susan Bagust ([log in to unmask]). A registration fee of£10 (payable to the Royal Musical Association) can be sent nearer the time to: RMA Student Liaison Officer, Wold Farm Cottage, Bishop Wilton, York YO42 1SX. (The event is free for RMA/Oxford University Music Faculty members who give details of membership.)
