medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
This does not represent how one attained tenure at a medieval university, but
does shed some light on how a professor of medieval studies attains tenure.
The question was: What level of publication is expected for tenure at your
institution?
The results were extremely varried, and the requirement seems to be never
spelled out irrevocably.
Highest Level: 2 books (can include a dissertation published beyond University
Microfilms and a book of previously published articles) or equivalent
journalistic publications--never more than 12 articles. This represents the
highest level indicated, and no one seems to require more. Apparently professors
have attained Ivy League tenure with less.
Lowest Level: Demonstrate academic excellence and intellectual growth.
