The last place a person should get junk mail foisted on them is in a public
library. I'd like to know whether or not people get an opt out of this like
they do with the TPS and with their postal mail, or whether the inserts are
just always there?
I suppose we'll be encouraged to look "positively" on the fact that despite
doom and gloom about libraries, the private sector clearly sees how to
exploit the network, and that in the modern era public libraries are all too
eager to be exploited.
Personally I find it dreadfully sad.
Cheers

I don't see a problem with this. I believe that in some countries it's
standard for books to come with adverts printed in them, Terry Pratchett
makes mock of this in one of his Discworld books IIRC. The downsides for
this is the paper wasted, the increase in waste as the public will screw
up these inserts and toss them away. But how many of us already give
inserts for library events and activities already?
