Salary: £25,134-26,666 per annum pro-rata
“OPTIMUM STRATEGY IN SPORT”
A Research Assistant is required for a project that forms part of “Achieving Gold”, a joint EPSRC
and UK Sport initiative bringing engineering, science and sport together in preparation for the
2012 London Olympics. In particular, the project will consider the track sprint in cycling and
will develop a prototype model that can be used to train athletes to act optimally in races.
You will be working in a small team: to collect relevant data from British Cycling at the Manchester
Velodrome; to support model development and validation; and to develop a prototype decision aid.
You will already have a PhD, or be working towards a PhD in a related area. You will be based in the
Centre for OR and Applied Statistics, an RAE 2001 5 rated research group.
