> If you are a student of Mathematics/Statistics at undergraduate or postgraduate level, this event is for you! Whether your planned next steps are to enter the job market or to undertake further study or research, our Open Day will enable you to find out all you need to know about how to get started on a career as a statistician.
> This year the programme will include:

> * stands run by a range of employers: your chance to discuss career opportunities with representatives of companies seeking statistical skills
> * stands run by a range of universities: your chance to talk to postgraduate providers about further study and research opportunities
> * talks on statistics in the workplace and informal break-out sessions focused on different sectors led by statisticians working for GlaxoSmithKline, Shell, National Air Traffic Services, the Government Statistical Services, Cancer Research UK and TNS, London
> ( market research): your chance to find out what working as a statistician is really like.

> An opening plenary talk by Professor David Hand of Imperial College (and the President of the RSS), will provide an overview of the opportunities for statisticians and his own career which has included teaching, research and consultancy for banks, pharmaceutical companies and governments.
> An afternoon plenary talk by Dr Nick Fieller of Sheffield University will look at the types of interesting careers which postgraduate study and research can lead to.
>
> Standholders will be: British Airways plc, Capgemini, CORDA (BAE Systems), Datatech, Dstl Farnborough, GlaxoSmithKline, Government Statistical Services, Hartley McMaster, Lloyds TSB, National Air Traffic Services, PA Consulting Group, Pfizer Ltd, Prospect Recruitment, QinetiQ, RBS Bank, Statisticians in the Pharmaceutical Industry (PSI), Simul8, SRG, Steer Davies Gleave, Tesco and TNS, London.
