SENIOR SURVEY STATISTICIAN/ANALYST, BMRB SOCIAL RESEARCH
£35,000-£45,000 plus benefits
Based in Ealing, BMRB (British Market Research Bureau) is one of Britain’s
leading social and market research agencies. We are part of WPP, the
world’s largest advertising and research company and in the top 50 quoted
companies.
We are looking for an experienced statistician and analyst to work in the
Methods and Statistics Team within BMRB Social Research. One of the UK’s
most respected social survey units, our work helps shape and inform
government policy-making across all areas of public policy. Our Methods and
Statistics Team aims to be a centre of methodological and statistical
expertise, enhancing the service that we provide to clients, improving the
skills of our researchers and building a reputation for BMRB as a leader in
the field of social research methods.
Role profile
Based in a small team of 3-4 people, you will work closely with our team of
50 social researchers. The role will involve:
· Designing and carrying out analyses of survey datasets using a
range of multivariate analysis techniques
· Providing statistical and methodological input into research
proposals for new business
· Training and coaching researchers in analysis approaches and
techniques
· Calculating design and non-response weights for survey datasets
· Calculating standard errors and design effects for complex sample
designs
· Working with the wider company Research Sciences team on
cross-company methodological and statistical initiatives
Qualifications, skills and aptitudes
· First degree or postgraduate degree qualifications in statistics,
maths or another subject involving a considerable amount of quantitative
data analysis.
· Advanced knowledge of SPSS is essential and familiarity with
STATA desirable.
· Experience of applying statistical and advanced analytical
techniques in a research environment, for example in a research agency,
government department, university department, institute or private sector
organisation.
· Able to communicate complex statistical concepts in a way that is
readily understood and absorbed by less-statistically minded colleagues and
clients.
· A genuine enthusiasm and aptitude for teaching and coaching.
· Able to work both independently and as part of team
· Able to work well under pressure and to respond to deadlines
Salary and benefits
· Base salary in the range £35,000 to £45,000
· Annual performance-related bonus
· 28 days holiday (including 3 to be used between Christmas and New
Year)
