STATISTICAL CONSULTANT
Fisheries Research Services provides expert scientific and technical advice to Government on marine and freshwater fisheries, aquaculture and the protection of the aquatic environment.
Based at the Marine Laboratory in Aberdeen, you will be part of a group providing a statistical consultancy service to FRS. This involves designing experiments, analyzing data, developing statistical methodology, presenting results, and providing statistical software support. The work is a mixture of ad-hoc advice, medium-term collaboration and longer-term research.
You must have a good degree or preferably a post-graduate qualification in statistics and experience of developing innovative statistical methods to solve problems in the applied sciences. You must have good written and verbal communication skills, particularly the ability to explain statistical concepts and results to a non-statistical audience. You must be able to write code in a statistical programming language, preferably R or GenStat.
The salary for this permanent post will be dependant on qualifications and experience. However the starting salary will either be £21,292 or £26,650 per annum. Salary is performance related, offering progression to a maximum of either £28,520 or £37,854 and bonuses to high achievers. The Civil Service offers a choice of final salary and stakeholder pension, giving you the flexibility to choose the pension that suits you best.
