Dear Graham
We evaluated the Nichols Advantage renin mass assay in 2002 alongside
our plasma renin activity assay in use for many years for the
investigation of mineralocorticoid disorders. ( Proceedings of ACB
National meeting 2003 p86)Although there was good agreement over the
'normal range' there were significant discrepancies with patient samples
with low renin levels which are so important fot the diagnosis of
primary hyperaldosteronism. For this reason we did not adopt the mass
assay ( which being automated, would have been more convenient). We have
not yet had a chance to evaluate the Liaison assay.
Best wishes
Pat Kyd

Subject: Immunoassay for Renin (Mass)
Hi
Our Endocrinologist has recently attended a meeting where the virtues of
measuring Renin mass by an immunoassay were extolled.
Does anyone have any information as regards such an assay, either as to
manufacturer of kits or to a Laboratory offering the service?
Many thanks
Graham
