If you define short film as being under 60 minutes, then certainly
Alain Resnais' Nuit et brouillard (Night and Fog, 1955) would have to
classify as one of the greatest short films ever made. Probably one of
the greatest tout court.
Robert Enrico's La rivière du hibou (An Occurrence at Owl Creek
Bridge, 1962) woud be another great example.
