Dear John,
SPM5 (and also SPM2) has DICOM-NIfTI/Analyze conversion utilities built
in. You can access them from the SPM5 batch system under utilities/DICOM
import. If you want to program your own batch, you will need to call
spm_dicom_headers/spm_dicom_convert.
