A few places are still available on the one-day course 'Blogs and wikis
in libraries - our new best friends?' at CILIP on Thursday 8th November.
These new methods for creating, sharing and disemminating information
are developing quickly. The course will be led by Karen Blakeman, a
leading consultant and trainer in this area. The morning will consider
the potential of blogs, wikis and RSS in libraries, how to produce blogs
and wikis, use RSS and search for information using these technologies.
The afternoon will be given over to demonstration and discussion
sessions in small groups with bloggers and wiki contributors/creators to
help explore the isssues involved in the successful use of these
resources. The wiki/blog authors contributing to the afternoon are:
Ruth Harrison (http://physmaths.wordpress.com) and Jenny Evans
(http://civeselib.wordpress.com) - blog producers for Imperial College
London
Patricia Garrett - producer of The Book Case reader development wiki
(http://thebookcase.wetpaint.com) for Portsmouth Library Service
Gilly Pearce - user of blogs and wikis for SINTO (Information
Partnership for South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire)
http://extra.shu.ac.uk/sinto/info_intro.htm
Caroline de Brun - producer of blogs and wikis for the NHS as Librarian
for the National Knowledge Service (http://www.nks.nhs.uk) and manager
of the Knowledge Management Specialist Library.
(http://www.library.nhs.uk/knowledgemanagement). Caroline also produces
the blog http://nhsinstitutealert.blogspot.com.
Sarah Washford - author of Info Junkie blog (http://swashford.blogspot.com)
Helen Nicol - researcher into the use of a shared blog by Project
Managers in the NHS whilst working for Connecting for Health in NHS and
writer of a personal blog (http://thebusinessofknowing.blogspot.com/).

how they might fit into your information service, this is the course for
you!
