We also do this and find no problems topping up online.

We have been doing this at this centre for
some time now, and also if the student isn't likely
to complete NC or ND we drop them the NA if they
have done enough work so they leave College with something!
Edexcel have made in quite easy online to transfer within the centre

Subject: BTEC query
I have a query regarding BTEC Nationals, do any of you routinely
register students on to a National Certificate and then top up to a
National Diploma in the second year? If so does this work ok
We are considering doing this rather than registering students directly
onto a National Diploma, the reason behind this is to allow students who
drop out after the first year to gain a qualification and therefore
improve our achievement figures.
Is this the best way to proceed or would it be better to register all
students on the National Diploma and then transfer the ones who drop out
onto a National Certificate.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
