Subject: teaching fieldwork
Dear all
A slightly wild request for information but...
I have the "pleasure" of authoring (with others) a guide to practice in
fieldwork for teaching earth and environmental science, to be published
for the UK's learning and teaching support network (for universities
and colleges). As part of this I'd like to get some ideas from the
global community of structural and tectonic folk and incorporate them
into the guide. So....
if you've got a moment, could Geotectonics users individually send ME
(Don't hit reply!) a single sentence explaining:
why you think teaching fieldwork is worthwhile.
Keep it brief - I'm not after essays - I'm after sound-bites. Please
let me know if I can quote these in a publication (although I won't
give individual names, unless individuals require this!).
If there is sufficient response - and interest, I'll circulate a single
geotectonics message at the end of September, reporting back what has
come from our community.
My reason for asking our community is that there's virtually nothing
modern from the earth science community - and I'd rather not have my
co-authors swamp the guide with information from geography and
environmental studies - teachers of which seem to be more active in
gathering and reporting this type of information.....
Many thanks!
Rob
