Dear all,
In my research a central theme is that design is in some (many) areas are
becoming a much more collaborative activity. More stakeholders are involved
in the design process. I have also found a few references pointing to how
the designer role is changing as a result. I think the shift can be viewed
on a scale between "artist" and "facilitator". My question is if other
members of the list are looking into this, have references etc?
... the new design methods permit collaboration whereas the old ones do not.
They change the nature of designing, or can if one lets them. The essential
point is that the new methods permit collaboration before "the concept", the
organizing idea, the back-of-the-envelop-sketch, "the design" as emerged
(providing the leading designer knows how to switch from being the person
responsible for the result into being the one who ensures that "the process
is right". (Jones, 1992 p xxxiii)
The lone ingenious designer, who could do everything by him- or herself is
rapidly becoming history. (Krippendorff, 2006 p 18)
An organizing Maestro, ... someone how can bring an extraordinary
combination of people together and create some real value... (Hargrove, 1998
p 49)
