Responsibilities:
The appointee will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in
Modern/Contemporary architecture to students
who are BA, BFA, MA/MFA, majors in design, art history, and art. This person
will work successfully with
colleagues who are art historians and also with those who are practicing
designers and artists. Responsibilities
will include program and curriculum development, assisting with art history
advising, chairing thesis committees
of art history M.A. students, student recruitment, grant writing, and
associated academic tasks associated with
service to the University. This person should be prepared to work with art
history students and also to support the
theoretical and historical training of students enrolled in professional
programs in industrial design and interior
design and in digital/new media art. The appointee will demonstrate
successful collaboration across disciplinary
boundaries and secondary expertise in the architectural history/theory of
one or more Western or non-Western
traditions or cultures prior to the 20th century. Effectiveness in academic
assignment and continuing scholarly
achievement are required to achieve tenure and promotion. Applicants should
have awareness of and sensitivity to
the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been
gained in cross-cultural study, training,
teaching and other comparable experience.
Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Art or Architectural History or Visual Culture at time of
appointment with one or more years of
university-level teaching experience, professional publications, and
knowledge of appropriate foreign languages.
Appointee will be selected on the bases of demonstrated excellence in
teaching and professional achievements.
Knowledge of computer applications in teaching the history of art and design
is required, as is an ability to teach a
variety of courses in and/or related to the history of modern architecture
and design. Candidates must address the
needs of a student population of great diversity—in age, cultural
background, ethnicity, primary language and
academic preparation—through course materials, teaching strategies, and
advisement.
Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Starting Date: August 21, 2008
Eligibility: Employment is contingent upon proof of eligibility to work in
the United States.
