I hope no-one will mind if I break my silence to tell you about two of our
projects involving children and poetry:
The Children's Poetry Bookshelf Competition for 7-8 year-olds challenges
them to develop their creativity and write a poem on the theme of 'Dreams'
to tie in with National Poetry Day, with a closing date of 15 October.
Michael Rosen chairs a distinguished panel of judges and a teachers' guide
and full submission details can be found on our website
www.childrenspoetrybookshelf.co.uk.
The T S Eliot Prize Shadowing Scheme, which encourages students to read
the best new poetry, will start on 5 November, inviting students to shadow
the judges as they deliberate on the ten poetry collections on the
shortlist. Three poems from each of the shortlisted poets will be
available to download from www.poetrybookshoponline.com. There will be an
online student poll and a competition for A level students to write the
best rationale for their choice of winner on the English and Media
Centre's emagazine website www.emagazine.org.uk.
