I'm in the middle of the first week of the semester plus moving offices. Any books not sealed in boxes right now will be by tomorrow at 8 a.m. so I can't look this up or provide anything but a dim memory:
Michael Thompson's book -Rubbish Theory- might be of interest to people thinking about the later lives of designed objects. He deals with the question of how objects go from the class that depreciates in value (like, say, my 2005 Prius or my previous 1992 Honda Civic) to the class that appreciates in value (like Terry's 1932 Rolls Silver Cloud or Ken's 1968 Pontiac GTO.)
