INTRODUCTION TO MARC 21
Sound knowledge of MARC 21 is a key element in professional effectiveness
when cataloguing in an online environment. MARC 21 is the only quality
metadata format currently available and provides a model for how this area
of work should be approached if consistent quality data is a requirement.
This two-day course covers a range of formats (books, serials, videos and
electronic resources) that present the MARC 21 Authority format.
BY THE END OF THE EVENT PARTICIPANTS WILL HAVE:
· gained an understanding of the integrated approach of the MARC 21 format
· significantly practised elements that allow you to work with MARC 21
· developed a secure knowledge of the MARC 21 format
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Those involved in quality online data creation. Staff in the process of
upgrading to MARC 21. Data managers who are in the process of specifying a
new system that will use MARC 21 and are unsure of the possibilities that
the format offers.
SPECIAL NOTES
The MARC 21 format being presented reflects the possibilities of the full
format, rather than a modified version offered by a specific system
supplier.
