MLA has recently surveyd library authorities on the current range and levels of ICT provision and accessibility.
We have had some 80 responses and have just emailed chief librarians to encourage more responses. The results will inform future work in setting the policy direction and best practice..
I am interested in good practice examples as well as well as restrictive practice.

Traffic over our council network is filtered though Equinet Cache Pilots.
Because we managed to convince our IT people that the reasonable
expectations and requirements of the general public are rather different
from those of staff, we have separate Cache Pilots for the public PCs, and
it is mainly library staff who control the blocking/unblocking of sites and
categories of sites. I suspect we are in a more fortunate position than
most.

Please respond to
Michael Stuart
Have you had access restricted by Council filtering systems? If you've
found a satisfactory solution that keeps everyone happy we'd like to hear
from you. Our library users are denied access to sites and search terms for
a range of subjects including alcohol and anti-government groups, although
these can be lifted on a case-by-case basis. We wish to make access easier.
I will share a summary of responses for all to see.
