Press Release
6 August 2007
Securing the future at Share The Vision
The co-ordination of Share The Vision (STV) is being taken on by RNIB's
National Library Service. This move ensures that STV, the consortium of
public and voluntary organisations delivering library and information
services to blind and partially sighted people, can continue its
important work at a lower cost.
In recent years, Share The Vision has driven some important initiatives
that have changed the way that library services are provided and
improved quality of provision. These include Revealweb: the national
database of accessible resources and the Gateway project which supports
around 100 champions who act as a local source of information and advice
in public library authorities.
David Owen steps down as Executive Director but will continue to
contribute his expertise by working for the consortium on horizon
scanning and consultations. Helen Brazier, Head of RNIB's National
Library Service takes on the co-ordinating role.
David Owen said: "It has been very rewarding to have been involved with
Share The Vision since 1998 as we have achieved much to improve library
services for visually impaired people. However there is a lot still to
be done and for that reason I am delighted to be able to continue my
involvement."
Mark Freeman, representing the Society of Chief Librarians and Chair of
Share The Vision said: "The changing world of technology and the
increasingly ageing population present significant challenges when it
comes to planning and delivering library services for visually impaired
people. The Board agreed unanimously that Share the Vision has a useful
role. We were delighted to find a new form of organisation which means
that we can continue to work together to have a positive impact on
library services."
