APOLOGIES FOR CROSS-POSTING
One of the original keynote speakers at the Spielberg at Sixty International Conference has unavoidably had to withdraw. In his place, the co-conveners are pleased to welcome Joseph McBride. McBride is an internationally known film critic and historian who has written fifteen books including acclaimed biographies of Steven Spielberg, Frank Capra, John Ford and Orson Welles (who he knew and worked with). His screenwriting includes the movie Rock 'n' Roll High School and five American Film Institute Life Achievement Award specials on CBS-TV dealing with Fred Astaire, Frank Capra, Lillian Gish, John Huston, and James Stewart. In 1983, McBride received the Writers Guild of America Award for the American Film Institute Salute to John Huston. He further received two Emmy nominations. A former critic and reporter for Daily Variety in Hollywood, McBride is currently an assistant professor at San Francisco State University.
