MAIN JOB PURPOSE:
One of the remits of this team is to drive and enable the use of
advanced statistical and mathematical approaches to R & D problem
solving, developing entirely new R & D methodologies. The successful
candidates will be expected to make key contributions to this aim.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
*To set direction for and lead key parts of the data science
programme and delivery to R&D Projects;
*To contribute and develop statistical and mathematical insights,
methodologies and applications for new problem solving approaches;
*To seek opportunities to transfer existing methodologies into new
applications;
*To develop relationships with and manage specific pieces of work
with external partners to a high standard;
*To establish a strong internal and external reputation, through
publishing, presentations and networking;
*To coach and mentor within the data science team to assist skill development.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
BSc or equivalent in Statistics
PhD in a statistical area preferred. Additional elements of
maths/computing would be advantageous
KEY EXPERIENCE:
Expertise in one or more of the following disciplines:
oTime series/spatial analysis
oStatistical modelling
oData mining
oBayesian methodologies
oPattern recognition
oDecision Science
oInformation and data visualisation
KEY SKILLS:
*Science and technology: statistics & mathematics, computing
*New idea generation: in relation to statistical/mathematical
approaches applied to practical problems
*Customer focus and interdisciplinary communication: appropriate
strategies to engage the enthusiasm of non-mathematicians for novel
mathematical approaches
*Commercial awareness: understanding the impact of your innovation on
the Unilever business
*External research and partner management
*External networking: able to build and maintain a network within the
external world.
