We have a work placement in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at Imperial College London for a person with an MSc or a PhD in Statistics or related discipline, and experience in the field of spatial statistics. The appointee will join a team led by Prof. Sylvia Richardson and Prof. Nicky Best engaged in the development of Bayesian statistical methods for disease risk assessment in epidemiology. In particular, the post-holder is expected to work in developing Bayesian hierarchical models to analyse the variation of disease risk in space and time using both area- and point-level data.
The post-holder will work in a joint project with the Veterinary Laboratories Agency (VLA) to develop methods for the analysis of the spatio-temporal distribution of risk of scrapie in UK farms. This project is led by Dr Victor del Rio from the VLA and Prof Sylvia Richardson and Dr Juanjo Abellan from Imperial College. The appointee will carry out the implementation of the statistical models needed to analyse data on scrapie infection.
This paid work placement is for 6 months starting 1st October (or as soon as possible thereafter) in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at Imperial College London. It will give the post-holder the opportunity to be part of an experienced team in spatial epidemiology and to become acquainted with other projects and research in this area, in particular with the work of the Small Area Health Statistics Unit, which is located in the same department. The Department is based on the Paddington Campus of the College.
Payment will depend on qualifications and experience, in the range £24,570 to £30,420 p.a.
Interested candidates should apply by emailing a CV and cover letter to Professor Sylvia Richardson ([log in to unmask]), quoting work placement in the subject heading. For informal enquiries about the job please contact Dr Juanjo Abellan ([log in to unmask]).
