Volumes of 'Cahiers du Cinema' have been translated into English, and
in the mid-60s Andrew Sarris even fronted a few issues of 'Cahiers du
Cinema in English'. More recently the 'New Left Review' published a
long history of the journal.
'Positif' has never had anything like its profile, so that you could
get the impression from casual reading that it was only the 'Cahiers'
critics who took Hollywood seriously back in the '50s. Obviously the
success of these critics as directors is part of this phenomenon.
Has there ever been much substantial written about, or translated
from,* 'Positif' in English?
*Other than that one book from the other year.
