Dear Thomas,
Relevance is certainly an important factor in design research, even if we
may find the relationship between relevance and irrelevance a difficult
matter to resolve in many individual cases. I tend to agree with you in a
general way, and I have often been concerned that design studies may drift
away from design practice, with the same consequences as the drift of
academic literary criticism away from the experience of writers and readers.
I notice that your argument is grounded on a principle of design
sensibility. Would you explain a little more what you mean by this?
Sensibility has been a grounding for work in other fields from time to time.
I wonder what you mean by this.
