Didn't Adventures of Baron von Munchaussen have a whole story? having gone
double the budget and still needing the final third (ish), Terry Gilliam's
producer apparently walked into a money man's office with the film thus far
and a handgun. Apparently they either covered the rest of the production, or
he was gonna put a round through the can... Can anyone tell me if this is
entirely fabricated, or furnish details?
Other runaways financially should include the original roto-scope version of
the Lord of the Rings, the huge swathes of epileptic red and blue flashes
almost hide the fact that half the film is missing due to gross overspending
from the outset...
But for best recent runaway success, how about Apocolypse Now? Coppola spent
a year in the Philipino jungles, in the middle of a real war, shooting and
shooting while selling all personal assets to make his dream come true.
Original shooting schedule was 100 days. 3 times that, we have one of the
best films ever made
